How was the food??
The food was great. Miss Wandies features home style traditional South African food, and is located in Soweto.
We ate at Miss Wandies on both trips. If you get to South Africa, you need to experience this excellent restaurant. This restaurant has an international reputation. There are business cards attached to almost every inch of the walls from people all over the world.
The pots are filled and left warming in the back room. A man told us what was in each pot. You just help yourself to a big serving of some sort of chicken, beef, ox (I think that what it was), vegetable dishes, desserts, ice cream, and wonderful breads. It was GOOOOOOOOD!
I admit, I played it safe and ate what sounded sort of American. Didn't do the ox thing. I liked the vegetables and breads. Their desserts aren't as sweet as our desserts, so I was a bit short on a sugar fix.
A few days later, we ate another Soweto restaurant located near Mandela's house. I had a really good chicken dish there.
I enjoyed eating in South Africa. I tried several differnt things. The cities have a variety of cuisines.
If your stomach gets homesick, the golden arches and KFC aren't far off. I have no idea if the fastfood tasted the same as back home. I didn't go to South Africa to eat the same old thing. It is more like I don't eat it here, so I won't eat it there.
Bon Apitite!
Next time try the Ox...its pretty good...I eat Ox tails and rice peas often...my uncle is Jamaican so its rather tasty and I'm not a big meat fan...I don't eat beef...but will devour some Ox tails and goat...delicious!!!
